Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-07
This Privacy Policy explains how Yardly LLC("Yardly," "we," "us," or "our"), a Georgia limited liability company that operates the lawn-care marketplace at yardlyapp.com, collects, uses, shares, and protects information about the residential customers who subscribe to a lawn-visit cadence and the independent landscaper contractors who perform the work. Yardly is a venue and payments layer connecting these two sides; Yardly does not itself perform lawn care. Landscapers are independent contractors, not employees or agents of Yardly LLC; the background screening and tax reporting described in this Policy support platform participation, not employment. This Policy works alongside our Terms of Service and Refund & Guarantee Policy. By using Yardly you agree to the practices described here. Yardly is an adults-only service intended for individuals 18 or older.
1. What we collect
- Account information: your email address, a password (stored only as a salted hash via Supabase Auth), display name, phone number, your role (customer, landscaper, or administrator), and your confirmation that you are 18 or older.
- Property and geolocation data: your service address, the geocoded latitude/longitude returned by the Google Maps Platform, the lawn polygon you trace on a satellite map, any bed polygons, driveway polylines, frontage measurements, and the resulting square footage and cadence used to compute your per-visit price.
- Payment references: we do not store full card numbers. Your payment method is held by Stripe; Yardly retains only non-sensitive references such as a Stripe customer ID, connected account ID, payment-method token, and invoice IDs needed to bill each completed visit.
- Service history:jobs, scheduled and completed visits, assignments, the per-visit lawn bundle (mow, edge, blow, hedge-trim) and any materials add-ons (mulch, pine straw), completion photos, and the mutual 1–5 star ratings and reviews you give and receive, including any recovery or appeals correspondence.
- Landscaper verification documents (landscapers only): business or trade licenses, insurance certificates, identity and onboarding details required by Stripe Connect Express, and the results of a background check performed through Checkr, Inc.
- Usage data: session cookies, basic web and server logs (such as IP address, device and browser type, and timestamps), in-app actions, error and diagnostic reports, and the message and delivery metadata generated when we send you email, SMS, push, or postal notifications.
2. How we use it
- To operate the marketplace's matching, scheduling, routing, messaging, and payment flows, and to compute per-visit quotes that scale with lawn square footage and cadence.
- To bill customers per completed visit by Stripe Invoice against the card on file, to pay landscapers through their connected Stripe account, and to administer refunds, redos, weather reschedules, and reassignments under our Refund & Guarantee Policy.
- To verify landscaper eligibility, including identity, business license, insurance, and the Checkr background check used to screen contractors for platform participation.
- To send service notifications and reminders by email (via Resend), SMS (via Twilio), mobile push (via Expo), and, where applicable, postal mail (via Lob).
- To relay calls and texts between customers and landscapers through a masked phone-proxy number (via Twilio) so that personal numbers are not exposed.
- To detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, off-platform circumvention, and other violations of our Terms, and to maintain the security and reliability of the service (including error monitoring via Sentry).
- To meet our legal, tax, and regulatory obligations, including issuing tax forms (a 1099-K is filed for landscapers through Stripe) and responding to lawful requests.
- To answer questions and provide help through our website support-chat assistant (powered by Anthropic), which processes the messages you send to it.
3. Sub-processors we share with
We do not sell your personal information. We share information with the following service providers (sub-processors) only as needed to deliver the service. Most act as our service providers under contract; certain providers (such as Stripe and Checkr) also act under their own legal role and privacy terms, as noted below:
- Stripe— payment processing and Connect Express payouts. Stripe receives the payment and account details it needs and processes them under its own privacy policy.
- Supabase— database, authentication, and file storage (including job photos and landscaper verification documents).
- Resend— delivery of transactional and marketing email.
- Twilio— SMS delivery and the masked phone-proxy relay between customers and landscapers.
- Google Maps Platform— geocoding and interactive maps. Property addresses are sent to Google to resolve coordinates.
- NOAA (api.weather.gov)— weather forecasts for reschedule decisions. We send only a rounded latitude/longitude and no personal information.
- Checkr, Inc.— background checks for landscaper applicants (see Section 5).
- Sentry— application error and performance monitoring.
- Lob— postcard and direct-mail delivery.
- Expo— mobile push notifications.
- Vercel— application hosting.
- Cloudflare— DNS and edge network.
- Anthropic— the AI model (Claude) behind our website support-chat assistant. It receives the messages you send in that chat and processes them under its own terms; these inputs are not used to train its models.
- Upstash— a managed store used to rate-limit the support chat. It receives the IP address of chat requests to enforce per-visitor limits and protect against abuse.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to enforce our Terms, to protect the rights, safety, or property of Yardly or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this Policy will continue to govern the transferred information).
4. SMS and text-message data
By providing a phone number you consent to receive automated transactional text messages from Yardly, such as appointment, scheduling, offer, and verification updates, and to the use of a masked phone-proxy number for communications with the other party to your service. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help; we will honor an opt-out made by any reasonable method within 10 business days. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of using the service. We retain the phone number, message content, and delivery metadata needed to send these messages and to demonstrate consent and opt-out status.
5. Background checks and the FCRA
Landscaper applicants authorize Yardly to obtain a background check through Checkr, Inc., a consumer reporting agency, for purposes of platform participation and contractor screening (this is not for employment). Under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and applicable state law, you have the right to request a free copy of any report procured about you within 60 days from the consumer reporting agency (Checkr), and the right to dispute the accuracy or completeness of any information in the report directly with the consumer reporting agency.
If information in a background check may lead us to deny or revoke your participation, we will provide a pre-adverse-action notice that includes a copy of the report and a summary of your FCRA rights, allow you a reasonable opportunity to respond, and, if we proceed, provide an adverse-action notice with the consumer reporting agency's name, address, and contact information.
6. Cookies
Yardly uses session cookies solely to keep you signed in and to operate core features. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites for advertising purposes. Because these cookies are strictly necessary, disabling them may prevent the service from working.
7. Payment and recurring-billing data
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered with and held by Stripe; Yardly never receives or stores your full card number. At signup we use Stripe's setup flow to save your payment method — no charge is made at signup.Your card on file is then charged per visit, after each visit is completed, by Stripe Invoice. Landscapers must additionally accept Stripe's Connected Account Agreement; Stripe's processing of payment and payout data is governed by Stripe's own Privacy Policy.
8. Data retention
We keep account data for the life of your account. After closure, we retain records needed for tax and financial reporting for 7 years(including data supporting 1099-K filings for landscapers), and we retain dispute, rating, and fraud-prevention records for as long as needed for those purposes. The non-sensitive Stripe references we hold (customer ID, connected-account ID, payment-method token, and invoice IDs) are retained alongside these financial records for the same 7-year tax-reporting window; full card data remains with Stripe under Stripe's Privacy Policy. Job and completion photos are retained for 2 years after the visit completes, after which they are deleted or de-identified. We may keep limited records longer where the law requires it.
9. Your privacy rights
Subject to verification of your identity and to legal retention requirements, you may request to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and you may object to or restrict certain processing. Where applicable state privacy laws (such as California's CCPA/CPRA) apply, you also have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and how we use and share it, the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
To make a request, email us at privacy@yardlyapp.com. You may use an authorized agent where the law permits. If we decline a request, we will explain why, and you may appeal by replying to our response. Some records (for example, tax and dispute history) must be retained even after a deletion request.
10. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, hashed credentials, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. Payment data is handled by Stripe under PCI-DSS standards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security; please use a strong, unique password and keep your login confidential.
11. Children
Yardly is an adults-only service. You must be 18 or older to create an account or use Yardly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it.
12. Electronic communications and email preferences
By using Yardly you consent to receive records, disclosures, and notices electronically (by email, in-app message, SMS, or push) under the federal E-SIGN Act; you may request a paper copy of any record and may withdraw consent to electronic delivery by contacting us, though doing so may limit your ability to use the service. Under the CAN-SPAM Act, transactional emails (such as receipts, visit reminders, and account notices) are part of the service and cannot be unsubscribed, while any marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link you can use at any time.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will email active users notice of material changes at least 14 days before they take effect and will update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of Yardly after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
